How we got here: A Short Hop to Vilagarcía de Arousa
Boiro, Galicia → Vilagarcía de Arousa, Galicia
Getting the anchor up in Boiro, the chain jammed in the windlass — hauled the rest of the chain and anchor up by hand and fixed it underway, made easier by a very calm day on the water. A short hop up the Ría de Arousa from there, all under engine the whole way — barely enough distance to bother with the sails. 8.5 nm, 1h57m.
Came into Marina Vilagarcía specifically to get a new UV strip sewn onto the headsail before it goes much further.
What we did here
Not much of a passage, more of a supply run: the nearest sailmaker was here, and the UV strip on the headsail needed replacing before it got much worse.
Hit a local gym, found a DIY store to pick up a battery-driven angle grinder — worth having aboard in case the rigging ever needed cutting away in a dismasting — and started getting the boat ready for a longer break once we reach San Adrián. We treated ourselves to a cheeky McDonald’s just after arriving, and the restaurant above the marina office is very good too.
Picked the sail back up before heading off — the sailmaker had done a great job, and gave it a clean bill of health, with plenty of good years of service still ahead.
