How we got here: Rounding Finisterre into Muros
Camariñas, Galicia → Muros, Galicia
Left Camariñas and worked south around Cabo Fisterra with a low pressure system parked over Galicia — a southerly on the nose the whole way, so most of the leg was under engine rather than sail, tacking the last stretch in where the angle allowed it. 50.5 nm, 8h20m at sea, 6h50m of that motoring.
Kept a wary eye out past the cape — there have been recent orca sightings and a few reported rudder incidents along this stretch of coast — but saw nothing today. Went straight into the marina in Muros — first stop in the Rías Baixas proper, with the Costa da Morte now behind us.
What we did here
Muros itself is a quiet, arcaded old fishing town tucked into the ría, a good place to dry out and wait for the weather to settle — the first couple of days were quite bad, rainy weather.
Met a couple of Dutch families here, experienced sailors on their own boats, who pitched in on some boat jobs with us — including a trip up the mast. One of the boats sails with a ship’s cat, Jup, who made the rounds of the rafted-up boats most evenings. Spent a few evenings together, taking turns hosting dinner and drinks aboard each other’s boats, and made plans to sail on to Boiro together.
